The Seltie Region Basic Facts:

The Seltie Zone is located 172 k.m. (107 miles) south of the capital city Addis
Ababa.

The Zonal capital city is Worabe.  Seltie Zone is one of the thirteen zones of
Southern Kelele (Region).  Seltie zone has an area of 2,950 Sq. k.m. (1,139
sq. miles).  The adjacent zonal neighbors are:
                   To the north and north west is Gurage Zone
                   To the south is Alaba Zone
                   To the east is Oromia Zone
                   To the west is Hadia Zone

The population count as of 2003 is 781,000 of which 51% female and 49%
male.  94% live in rural area as farmers and 6% live in cities.

Education

Student population in the zone – 124,000
Average number of students per class room – 108
Total number of teachers – 1,200
Average number of students per available text book – 12

Number of elementary schools in the zone are 110 this only serves 62% of
elementary school age children.

Number of secondary (high schools) in the zone is 7 this only serves 2.2%
of secondary school age children.

Number of universities or colleges – 0

Health

At this time there is limited access to any health care facility.

The Seltie zone has the following health care facilities:

Total number of health centers - 12
Total number of Clinics - 7
Total number of health stations – 55
Total number of Hospital - 0

At this time only 56% of children will be immunized.
